Trying New Things

Good morning! How was everyone’s weekend?

Relaxing? Fun? Productive? Too short?

Mine too.

I kicked off my Saturday the best way I know how, which is by sleeping in as late as possible (10:00am for this girl). It was glorious. I needed to catch up on sleep from getting wayyy too little on Thursday night. Such is the life of a single gal.

Anyway! Once I got out of bed I decided to get a quick, sweaty workout in before tackling the rest of my day. I did one of my favorite incline treadmill workouts that kills me every time, then I came home to knock out the phase 1 strength 1 workout from Body Revolution.

After a quick shower I got ready to meet my mom for some lunch and shopping!

Didn’t think to snap a picture until I was halfway through my apple, but I enjoyed some tomato soup and the barbeque chopped salad from Panera Bread (thanks mom!).

Number 1 priority on our shopping agenda was to find shoes for my sister’s wedding (which is only a month away! holy crap). Number 2 priority was to find a dress for a wedding I’m going to in a couple weeks with The Boy.

Shoes: Success!

Adorable silver, sparkly, peep toe pumps. Bride approved!

Dress: Failure. Couldn’t find anything. But thankfully Andrea came to my rescue with a perfect dress for me to borrow. Now I just need to find a cute blazer or cardigan to wear with it which shouldn’t be too difficult. I didn’t leave TJ Maxx empty handed though…who does?

Finally found a maxi dress that fits right! Super exciting for my 5’1 frame. Also bought a long sleeve shirt dress (because I could not resist all the fall clothes), some new leggings, and sneakers for walking to class in. Because I’m old and my feet hurt and I don’t care if I’m that girl who wears sneakers and sweatshirts to class everyday.

After shopping I met up with my sister for my bridesmaid dress fitting. My nephew wanted to take a picture…

Haha. Terrible. But he made me promise to show everyone his camera skills. The dress looks almost blueish in this picture, but it’s actually a very pretty deep purple color. I’m getting so excited for this wedding!

A few more errands and a good movie with the roommates rounded out my Saturday!

I woke up on Sunday morning, got dressed, and headed to a Bikram yoga class. My second class ever.

I tried Bikram for the first time a couple weeks ago, and sort of loved it. I had purchased a Groupon ages ago, and been putting off trying it because I didn’t want to go alone. Finally, I looked in the mirror and said Meghan. You are 25 years-old. Grow a pair. So I went to my first Bikram yoga class, and I’m so glad I did!

Bikram is super challenging, requires a ton of focus, and afterwards, you sort of feel a heightened awareness of your body. It’s tough to explain…but it’s like you have a new appreciation for what your body can do. Very empowering, I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s also very powerful meditation, because for 90 minutes you think only of what pose you’re trying to complete, and how you’re going to complete it. There’s no room in your brain for nagging thoughts (did I remember to put my clothes in the dryer? did I leave the coffeepot on? I wonder if that book I ordered came in yet…).

You can’t be afraid of sweat though, because it will be everywhere. Up your nose, in your eyes, down your throat. Disgusting, but worth it!

After yoga it was time for breakfast.

Protein pancakes! Topped with half a banana and a perfectly ripe peach. Delicious! I’ll share the recipe this week.

I also got to work in the kitchen prepping some lunch for the week, turkey burgers with fruit salsa.

I love stocking my fridge on Sundays to make the rest of my week easier.

After cooking it was time to put my brand new school supplies to good use!

It was an absolutely beautiful afternoon, so I decided to enjoy the weather and get my work done outside!

For dinner, I needed to use a Groupon that was about to expire (yes I’m addicted to Groupons), so me and Andrea walked a few blocks to Trattoria Roma for some Italian food. We started with some complimentary bread and a delicious antipasto with salami, provolone, prosciutto, artichokes, and sweet red peppers.

For my main course, I ordered the chicken marsala with garlic mashed potatoes. Forgot to snap a picture, sorry! The mashed potatoes were exactly what I was craving, so I polished them off pretty quick! Brought most of the chicken home to enjoy this week.

And for dessert, a cannoli to go! Split with Andrea at home on a paper towel cuz we fancy.

That cannoli was unbelievable. I don’t know why I don’t order something like this more often (well, gluten allergy aside).

We wrapped up the night watching a couple episodes of Bar Rescue. Such an addictive show. And it’s not at all weird for two girls to watch Spike TV together, right? Right.

So tell me, how was your weekend? Feeling ready to take on the work week? I sure am…especially with this forecast in mind!

Have you ever seen a more perfect weather forecast? I sure as heck haven’t!

Sounds like you had a great weekend! I’ve never tried Bikram, but I am intrigued; everyone raves about it. I’m more of a Vinyasa girl, though–Bikram seems intimidating!

Don’t be intimidated! Seriously I knew nothing about yoga before going to my first class. You aren’t expected by any means to be able to do everything! It’s all about the experience…but yoga either way is great!

Thanks! They were pretty cheap too, only $40. Love DSW! I think I jinxed myself a bit with that weather forecast because it’s been overcast and windy up in Boston today (figures) but I’m still hopeful for the rest of the week. I hope you’re having better luck out in PA!
